What is your favorite part of your job?

I love building relationships with my patients.  Seeing them every year and talking about their most recent endeavors has made this job so meaningful.  I also enjoy that instant gratification when I can help a patient see clearer or more comfortably. The reactions are priceless.

Tell me more about yourself.

I’m from Illinois, and a Midwesterner at heart.  I went to undergrad at the Honors College of Florida Atlantic University and pursued my doctorate degree at the Illinois College of Optometry.  I have been in the Bay area for more than 7 years and have served downtown San Francisco for more than 5 years now. I’m part of the San Francisco Optometric Association, Optometric Extension Program Extension, and College of Vision Development.

What are your outside interests and hobbies?

I enjoy spending time with my family, which includes my husband and Emma, my vivacious toddler daughter.  Life and interests have changed after becoming a mom, but I enjoy reading/listening to audiobooks, taking family walks, traveling (pre-COVID), trying new food, and just enjoying the company of my friends and family.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Santorini – everything about the area is magical, whether it was the food or the scenery.

If you could have one food or drink every day, what would it be?

Hu Tieu, which is a Vietnamese soup dish, and Boba tea

Dr. Marilyn Ng

What is your favorite part of your job?

Seeing patients, especially kids put on their first pair of glasses and being amazed they can see so clearly. Hearing " I can see the leaves on the trees!" never gets old. Love seeing that wide grin smile while patients look around the room with their new glasses.

Tell me more about yourself.

Native San Franciscan here! Grew up in the Sunset District and yes I did go to Lowell High School. Completed my undergraduate at UC Davis and my optometry degree at UC Berkeley. I went from watching games at the cold and windy Candlestick to cold and windy PacBell Park (now Oracle Park), but at least I get garlic fries now. Go Giants!   Foggy weather is my friend. I will freeze if it's below 60 degrees and melts above 70. I belong to the California Optometry Association and am part of the San Francisco Optometric Society.

What are your outside interests and hobbies?

I love traveling and trying new foods hence all those food pics on Facebook. Yes, I am one of those people who post pictures of food all the time. I also love to curl up with a good book, especially with the foggy San Francisco weather. With this staying safe at home period, I have been experimenting with baking and cooking. Sometimes it turns out awesome. Sometimes it doesn't look great but the taste is delicious but sometimes it doesn't look or taste good at all.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Traveling back to Asia is always fun except for the long plane ride. My favorite spot is going back to Singapore where I wish I was part of the Crazy rich Asians but I am just crazy and Asian.

If you could have one food/drink every day, what would it be?

Boba tea. I can have one every day and anytime. So delicious but it makes my wallet thinner and my waistline bigger.

Dr. Rachel Reed

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love meeting new patients each day and making patients happy by finding the perfect fit of glasses or contacts to see the world clearly.  I also enjoy treating dry eye and computer vision ocular health issues.

Tell me more about yourself.

I'm from Ohio and I attended Denison University for undergraduate studies. After college, I worked in various medical offices, and during this time I developed a passion for optometry and decided to pursue a career as an optometrist. I then moved to Texas to attend the University of Houston College of Optometry. After graduating, I moved to sunny California to begin my career.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I always enjoy seeing the first reaction of someone seeing clearer for the first time. It’s my favorite part of the job! I also love meeting new people and their families, then seeing them again the next year. I get such a kick out of listening to their stories and any new changes since I last saw them. It’s like catching up with an old friend!

Tell me more about yourself.

I was born and raised in San Francisco and studied at UC Davis for my undergraduate studies. Since I’ve been in California all my life, I decided to branch out and move to Boston to pursue Optometry at the New England College of Optometry. My favorite part of living in the east coast was the gorgeous fall foliage. My least favorite is slipping on the ice every winter. Still, nothing beats seeing the first snowfall untouched by footprints! After graduating, I moved back to San Francisco to be with my family.

Are you affiliated with any associations?

I’m a part of the California Optometric Association and the San Francisco Optometric Society.

What are your outside interests and hobbies?

I enjoy going to new restaurants and trying new dishes! I also love to travel and experience different places and cultures. When I’m feeling like a homebody, I like to relax with a good book, binge some dramas, or work on some random crafts, such as knitting or cross-stitching.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

My current favorite place that I’ve traveled to is Kyoto, Japan. The area is gorgeous and I love experiencing the culture. Though, I may have spent most of that trip eating my way through the city.

If you could have one food/drink everyday, what would it be?

Korean Tofu Stew! Nothing beats a hot soup on a cold day.
